Hey, I'm Ian! I had a brief introduction to weaving while attending the College for Creative Studies, where I obtained my BFA. During the great pause of 2020 after being laid off from my 9-5 I decided to get a small frame loom, and soon after a rigid heddle loom. Having a background in design, I've always loved playing with pattern and color, but being able to actually make a fabric with those designs, and see people enjoy wearing them has been so rewarding.
C. F. Bennett designed the first jockstrap in 1874 for bicycle jockeys who needed some extra support and protection being jolted around on cobblestone streets. The jock has gone though quite a lot of changes through the years, and has become an iconic piece of clothing, particularly the classic white band with red and blue stripes. Like many gay men I've been fascinated with jockstraps from an early age. To me it was a symbol of masculinity and virility- the most intimate article of clothing. Whether wearing it for sport, sex, or comic relief there's just something magical about wearing a jock. I wanted to celebrate that with this scarf design.
